Frugal Tip #45 Lower the heating at Night

Earlier this year, I started posting a more in depth look at each of the frugal tips. Over the next few weeks I will publish the frugal tips that I have collected. Please note that not every tip will work for everyone. Chose as many of the tips that will work with you and your family and start implementing them. Today we will proceed with Tip #45 Lower the heating at night and use an extra blanket (or less coverings now that it is summer with the thermostat set for warmer).

Here is the deal in the winter you don't need the thermostat set for 75. That is absolutely a waste of energy, when you can were warmer clothes and have it set for at the most 70. At night when you go to bed turn it down to 67 and put an extra blanket on the bed. Sorry but you won't freeze to death. Sixty-seven is well above freezing and you just need to learn to get used to temps being a little cooler in the house.

Now for summertime. It has been 100 degrees or better here in central Texas for the past couple weeks or so. Along with an unusually drier spring we have also had our fair share of wildfires (now the wildfires are in Arizona). All of which makes for one hot spring. The big thing people want to do is to turn the air conditioning up. Sorry you don't need the thermostat set for 68 during these hot days. My wife and I typically keep ours on 72 during the day and 73 when we go to bed. At night we may only have a sheet over us instead of sheet and a blanket.

It is possible to be more frugal with your heating/cooling expenses and still remain comfortable. The thing is will you do it?
