Mortgage Means What?

If you are thinking of buying a home, the word "mortgage" should loom large. Mort (ie Mortal). Gage. Divide up these words and you get "death pledge" in French. But it doesn't stop there in Latin it translates as "Death Grip," ie (John went outside to gage the extent of the damage.)

    "mortgage" doesn't loom as large as renting for a lifetime only to save enough to buy near the time of your death. mortgage interest is one of the four federal major entitlements. people with financial managment skill and a predictable income might benefit from owning rather than renting. of course it all depends on markets and price... but renting is another word that should loom large.
