IRS says Forget About Traveling

MAP-21 (Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act - Senate bill 1813) introduced in the Senate by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA)is headed to the House after clearing the Senate on March 14. Boxer’s bill allows the federal government to revoke the passports of citizens the IRS claims owe taxes.

According to the Daily Economist,
“There is no requirement that the tax payer be guilty of or even charged with tax evasion, fraud, or any criminal offense — only that the citizen is alleged to owe the IRS back taxes of $50,000 or more."
- the Daily Economist

Which in the words of InfoWars.com that translates into
the Fourth Amendment will become irrelevant in many taxes cases if this legislation makes it through the House. MAP-21 does, however, face opposition by some Republicans.

How can they tread on the Constitution like this and ignore the due process of law? To fight suspected terrorists of course. We as honest hardworking citizens must give up our freedoms. Hell, we must burn the constitution, because of those terrorists. There is no more innocent until proven guilty. No more due process of law. Our only hope to stop this injustice is with the members in the lower chamber of Congress. We must write and call our congressmen and tell them we don't want our Constitutional liberties tread upon anymore.

As for as only going after wealthy Americans as the media release indicates (those owing over $50,000) the history of the IRS is quite different. In May 2010 CBS reported that the IRS went after a man who owed back taxes of 4 cents. With penalties over the course of three years that 4 cents ballooned to $200. So much for the kinder, gentler IRS that was promised us a few years back with the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998.

How long will it be before we have a Soviet style system of internal passports to travel within the United States. A system that would prohibit us from going from one state to another simply because the government didn't like us.

“Those who are willing to allow the government to establish a Soviet-style internal passport system because they think it will make us safer are terribly mistaken,” Paul concluded. “Subjecting every citizen to surveillance and screening points actually will make us less safe, not in the least because it will divert resources away from tracking and apprehending terrorists and deploy them against innocent Americans!

- Ron Paul (December 8, 2004)
