I broke down this morning, and turned on the heater. I was hopping to not turn the heat on until the first of November.However, when my house got down to 63 degrees, I decided that I must go ahead and turn it on.
When I did though, the thermostat didn't want to work. After messing with it for an hour it finally decided to turn the heat on. Sounds like I will need to purchase a new thermostat. Which, when I do, I am going to replace it with a programmable one. My current thermostat is digital, but not programmable. So, I can not preset the thermostat to adjust the temperature according to the times that I am usually home or gone.

ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the blog and reading this post makes me chuckle at how much I've recently struggled with a broken thermostat at my house! I also work for a company that's trying to design a product to help people get out of debt. We hear a lot of stories from frustrated people these days, and they oftentimes ask us if there's cheap, everyday technologies that they can use to cut their costs. Changing to a programmable thermostat is a great idea. Can you think of any others?

Hello! Yesterday was 60 degrees in my house, but I am trying not to turn the thermostat on until Nov. 16th. This way a whole bill will be without ac or heat so it should be cheap. Since I am one month behind on my bill, I am hoping to have a very low bill next month. We will see, I think if it goes below 60 I might turn it on.
ReplyDeleteI am getting a free energy audit from the electric company soon. They will come in and see where we are wasting electricity and replace small things for free. They are going to put in programable therastats for free as well, and add some attic insulation and stuff. I hope this will help lower my bills.
Check with your electric company to see if they offer such a program. -Becky in NJ
