Christopher Needler is the founder of DebtWatchers.net. The mission close to his heart is supporting those struggling with debt by encouraging them to fully discharge their debts with peace of mind and live debt free and prosperous thereafter.
“Most of us have developed a rather low opinion of ourselves – often masked by grandiosity and ego.”
The foundation of every attitude we hold and every action we take is our sense of ourselves in the world. Who am I? What am I worth? What do I deserve to have?
Until we can answer these questions with humility and self-respect we will continue to produce the same results we came here with, because our results are consistent with our opinions of ourselves. After years of uncontrolled spending and debting, most of us have developed a rather low opinion of ourselves – often masked by grandiosity and ego.
This sets us up for the binge-purge cycle so often at work in any compulsive behavior. Today, you might say, “I’m going to take control of this; today I will spend only five dollars, pounds or euros.” And tomorrow, or next week, you end up spending 500. You feel guilty. You try to control. And then you lose it again.
The DebtWatchers program is about stepping out of this cycle, and moderating your actions in a balanced way, sustainable day in and day out for the rest of your life. With each day lived like this, you come to feel better and better about yourself and the way you are living your life. It is never too late!
We have found that attitudes and actions are closely linked, and that when you change one, you change the other as well. This is why we have adopted familiar phrases such as, “Act as if” and “Fake it ‘til you make it.” There is a fundamental question in all this: why do sane people, who know what they need to do to take care of themselves, not do it… again and again and again? We found that we were living out unconscious habitual behaviors, which continued to drive us until we brought them to the light. Being present in the moment of choice, and keeping track of what you notice, makes these habits conscious.

Blog Update - Don't Blow Your Money (or Chances)
Good morning. Hope this brief post finds you all doing well. Today's post will be a little out of the norm but that's okay as I want to update you all on what is going on here in my world. Between my work and church schedules I am busy working on Saturdays post, trying to find some of the best freebies I am hopeful by searching this early that I can find some that will still exist come Saturday. Of course I will still be searching Saturday morning when I first get up to finish the post.
Also I am researching for an article to compare warehouse clubs. Not only that, but are they worth paying the annual membership (or is it just blowing your hard earned money). This is a post you won't want to miss. Look for this post to publish sometime next week (I hope). I am hoping to get by both of the clubs this weekend.
In addition Monday we will have the final frugal tip from the 45 tips we listed some time back. Monday we will have a more in-depth look at that idea. I am not sure what I will find in the archives for Flashback Tuesday, but I am sure you will enjoy it. What did you all think of the video I pulled out this past Tuesday?
Don't forget tomorrow night we will be looking at the financial institutions that the Feds seize tomorrow evening. Keep your fingers crossed that it isn't one near you or me.

A New Beginning - Focusing on Set Goals
I started this blog over years ago (March 2006). The goal was to eliminate my debts. Along the way I accepted donations (over all less then $25), sponsorships (over all probably less then $3,000) and a lot of hard work at a full time near minimum wage job to eliminate my debts. I even decided to go for a dream and risk my financial future by selling my house, getting married and moving with my new wife to a warmer climate. The Great State of Texas. I left behind friends, family and even connections to move to a state where I was basically unknown.
Some of the things I did were not the best choice. Even though I managed to get out of debt there was damage done. I spent almost six months without a job. I trusted the Lord my God and somehow lived on my wife's social security. I can't explain how we did it, although I did dip into savings and funds I received from sponsors of this site.
Now I have a job and my beautiful wife is eager to get a place of our own. To be honest, I want our own place to. However, savings is not really up to the levels we need it to be. I am tired of our financial goals being set on the back burner. I am ready to clean up MY mess and push forward toward our dreams (goals). It is time to start with a new beginning. A task I am sure to accomplish, because as Dave Ramsey says, It's easier once you know how. Will I/we make mistakes along the way again? Probably! We are human. The key is to recognize our mistakes, pick ourselves up, brush off and refocus upon the goals.

Currently I am making sure that my wife and I:
- Tithe at least 10% of our income.
- 10% of my paycheck is automatically being put into our emergency fund.
- 10% of my paycheck is automatically being put into savings to buy our own home.
- Make sure that I save $175 out of each weeks paycheck to pay for the rent and water.
- In the next year I would like to start speaking publicly. Doing at least 25 gigs0+671 per year on what the Bible has to say about finances. In the next 1-2 years I would like to purchase a home for my wife and I (an estimated expense in this market of about $100,000). In the next 1-5 years I would like to purchase a convenience store and/or a car wash to help supplement my income and start my road to wealth before I am 50. A dream I have spoken of a few times, especially in the earlier days of the blog. I just need to find a way to make it actually happen.

Flashback Tuesday: Never Have a Car Payment Again
On Thursday, October 02, 2008 I posted the video and post below. Today I thought it would be a great reminder to re-watch this Dave Ramsey production on car buying.
Want a new car? It is possible to never have a car payment again. To find out how, in easy step by step terminology, this video explains how.

Frugal Tip #44 Healthy, Well and Wise
Earlier this year, I started posting a more in depth look at each of the frugal tips. Over the next few weeks I will publish the frugal tips that I have collected. Please note that not every tip will work for everyone. Chose as many of the tips that will work with you and your family and start implementing them. Today we will proceed with Tip #44 Take good care of your health, your teeth, your spirit.
Some may ask how this falls into tips for frugality. It's simple really. Take care of yourself and you won't have the expensive doctor visits.
Some may ask how this falls into tips for frugality. It's simple really. Take care of yourself and you won't have the expensive doctor visits.
- Eat right.
- Get enough sleep.
Your body needs a good 6-8 hours of sleep. More importantly is what health care providers call REM sleep. REM sleep is your nervous system’s way of healing and refueling your body. Also, if you’re feeling overly sluggish, take a short nap or sit and rest. Chronic sleep and sluggishness problems should be reported to your health care provider. - Exercise.
- Brush your teeth.
If you regularly brush (and floss) your teeth you will help keep the dentist away. At least the expensive drilling and filling of cavities. - Exercise.
Exercise is known to help you live a longer and healthier life. The body needs to stay in action and movement. Move it, or lose it! This includes mental as well as physical exercise. As a healthy physical body includes a sound and sharp mind. Keep challenging your mind to expand, grow, learn, experience, decipher, and explore. Use it, or lose it! - Think Positive.
As Norman Vincent Peale used to say, "Power of Positive Thinking." What you put out does come back. So if you want to feel and look great, monitor your thoughts closely to ensure that you are thinking only positive, forwarding thoughts. If you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, simply turn it around into a positive thought. It does work. Not over night mind you, but positive thoughts do help improve your life. - Spiritual health.
Your spiritual health is important to. Improving your spiritual health may not cure an illness, but it may help you feel better, prevent some health problems and help you cope with illness, stress or death. Be sure to spend God everyday in prayer and daily Bible meditation. When I say prayer I don't mean with your laundry list of things you want. I mean a deep passionate prayer of interceding for others needs and desires.

Freebies Saturday:
It is time once again for this weeks Freebie Saturday. I make every effort to make sure that the freebies I list are real free offers. If you have to answer a survey and then go through 50 pages of ads to get the so called free item, I consider that spam. That is why I make every effort to make sure that those websites are never included in my list.
Hey ladies receive a Free mini Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara.
Your child (under 10) can take the Pottery Barn Kids Summer Reading Challenge by completing one of the reading lists.
Then simply bring the completed form in to your nearest Pottery Barn store, before August 24, a you will receive a Free Kids Book!
request a free sample of Almond Cheeze - Mozzarella Style Chunks from Lisanatti Foods. Now can someone tell me how do they make cheese (or milk for that matter) out of Almonds?
